No More Bust-It Babies.

I’ve retired the old Nike Shox, which Peedie donned the “Bust-It Babies.” After a 3-mile run on Saturday, I took a trip to Front Runner to get my official running shoes. The experience was amazing. The sales rep, Tracy, was awesome.
First, Tracy watched me walk around the store to figure out which shoes would compliment my feet. She brought out 5 shoes that could improve my arch and enhance my running time.
I tried on a pair of Brooks and Asics. However, I took home a new pair of the Pro Grid Omni 7 Ultimate by Saucony. My smile says it all.
They’re dope!
I ran 2 miles on Sunday with the new shoes and my feet felt great. Gold star for Tracy. She said running shoes should be replaced after about 400 miles. Let’s see how long it takes me to get to four-hun. In the meantime, I’ll be training for my first 5K with Peedie. We’ll be running in the 30th Annual 5K Great Pumpkin Run on Saturday, October 25 in Grandview. Come check us out!
Thanks Tracy!

Winners Are Actually Quitters.

How dare you settle for mediocre just because you’re busy coping with too many things. If you’ve got as much as you’ve got, use it. Use it to become the best in the world, to change the game, to set the agenda for everyone else.
Over the past two weeks, I’ve read The Dip by Seth Godin twice. Godin’s 80-page book was highly recommended to help me make some tough decisions about my career.
Let me start by saying this book is amazing. It’s a tiny book that teaches you when to quit and when to stick. When you’ve reached that point where you’re asking yourself “is this job, relationship, or company even worth it?”, you’ve reached the almighty Dip.
The Dip is described as a temporary setback that’s overcome with perseverance. In simpler terms, it’s where success happens. There are also Cul-de-Sacs, which will never get any better no matter how hard you try. It’s really all about staying focused and motivated when it really counts (the Dips) instead of wasting time on people, places, and things that don’t (the Cul-de-sacs).
Seth breaks it down by explaining what really sets superstars apart from the rest of the world. Those of us that are able to escape dead ends (Cul-de-sacs) and spend our time mastering the things we’re great at are the real superstars.
According to Godin, winners quit fast, quit often, and quit without any guilt. They actively seek out the Dips and commit to beating them. At some point, they realized the bigger the Dip, the better the reward. Losers are the total opposite. They never welcome the Dips. They either get to a Dip and give up, or never find the right Dips to conquer.
The Dip inspired me to quit the stuff that doesn’t really matter and conquer the stuff that I know I’m great at.
Stop settling. Look for the dips in life.
Perfect 10.

It’s been a month since I started running with Peedie. I’m proud to announce I’m back in my size 10 pants! I’ve lost six pounds since June and I’ve been running about 2-3 miles 3-5 times per week, even with temperatures in the mid to high eighties.
So far, I’ve managed to run 3 miles nonstop. (yay me!) I was so proud of myself, I bought a few new short sets. Next on the list…authentic running shoes. Hey, I’m a professional now. When in Rome, right?
This week, I’m going to Front Runner for some new kicks. Front Runner provides a full analysis of your foot that determines what type of shoe works best. They even let you run around the store in different shoes. I’ve been rockin’ the Nike Shox lately. My feet usually start to hurt at mile 2, so a trip to Front Runner is long overdue.
I’ve got my eye set on the 26 mile marathon. Peedie did it last year, so my goal is for us to complete it together. Honestly, I didn’t think I’d see my size 10 for a few decades. So, if I can achieve a 10, I can definitely get to the 26. Word.
Pure Eye Candy.

I started with a few floral themed graphics for the Spring. Check those out here. Today, I decided to try something new. After a few hours of brainstorming, I pulled from my infatuation with Aveda’s fashion photography for the new theme, Pure Eye Candy. Check out the full email campaign here.
Thoughts?

The New Carl Dot., originally uploaded by kcato.
Last week, I started a new branding project for my muse/bf Carl F. McKinney. He’s an amazing blogger, photographer, and landscape architect.
Carl wanted a clean and simple brand that communicated who he is. Well, he’s Carl. PERIOD. He’s always the same genuine person no matter who or what. That’s where the idea began…
We started with a business card, and finished with a Web site and blog design all in about five hours. As you can see, we work great together. I had a blast bringing his vision to life.
No longer will we say, carlmckinney.com, when referring to his site. Oh No. It’s CARL DOT! Holla!
