Case Study: Carl McKinney Photography

“Carl captures vivid portraits, rich details, and genuine moments for the most wonderful people in the world”

I’ve had the pleasure of working with an enormously talented photographer, Carl McKinney. Carl is a wedding and lifestyle photographer located in Columbus, Ohio.

The first phase of this project was to create a brand that represented Carl’s personality and professionalism. Within minutes of our initial conversation, Carl dot was born.

Put simply, Carl dot means it’s just Carl, period. Carl is always the same sweet, genuine person every time you see him. He also brings his warm spirit to his clients and body of work. Therefore, it was important that we incorporated these qualities into his brand.

Next, we began working on Carl’s portfolio site. The objective was always to bring a simple, yet fresh design to the Web. To do this, I incorporated Flash, Mootools, JavaScript, and some fancy CSS styling.

Below are screen shots of what I’ve captured so far. We’ll be launching the new site soon (I promise). Thank you Carl for a wonderful Web design experience. :)

Meet Behance.

Lately, I’ve been working on my new Behance portfolio. Besides the absolutely GORGEOUS interface, the Behance network is a great online community for creatives to network, share and critique.

I added a few pieces. Now it’s time for some quality Web 2.0 meet and greet.

Check me out!

Pure Eye Candy.
Before I joined AC Lens/PCPD in February ’08, their email campaigns focused more on in-house product photography to boost sales. Since I arrived, I’ve been designing themed header graphics for the email blasts to spice up the brand.

I started with a few floral themed graphics for the Spring. Check those out here. Today, I decided to try something new. After a few hours of brainstorming, I pulled from my infatuation with Aveda’s fashion photography for the new theme, Pure Eye Candy. Check out the full email campaign here.

Thoughts?

Last week, I started a new branding project for my muse/bf Carl F. McKinney. He’s an amazing blogger, photographer, and landscape architect.

Carl wanted a clean and simple brand that communicated who he is. Well, he’s Carl. PERIOD. He’s always the same genuine person no matter who or what. That’s where the idea began…

We started with a business card, and finished with a Web site and blog design all in about five hours. As you can see, we work great together. I had a blast bringing his vision to life.

No longer will we say, carlmckinney.com, when referring to his site. Oh No. It’s CARL DOT! Holla!

Since December ’07, I’ve been involved with a local start up, GotGame? Media. I’ve been hard at work on the logo, branding, and user interface.

9108 marks the exact date (September 1st) the site will be totally functional. The site’s goal is to help high school athletes secure college scholarships. Each athlete will be able to create campaigns containing videos, photos, and content that’s delivered to college coaches and recruiters with just one click.

Stay tuned for new developments. For now, check out the first phase.
